The Pledging Tree Foundation (TPTF)

Downingtown, PA—The Foundation for Financial Planning (FFP) awarded TPTF a grant of $10,000 to outreach under-served demographics in the Greater Philadelphia area and deliver financial education workshops and 1:1 mentoring sessions. As part of this work, TPTF plans to research and explore possibilities  to deliver financial education in demographics such as veterans, Hispanic community, single mothers, and residents in affordable housing. The Pledging Tree Foundation (TPTF) Delivers First Workshops to Veterans

Downingtown, PA—The Pledging Tree Foundation hosted its first workshop to veterans through a partnership with Fresh Start Foundation (http://www.freshstartfoundation.org), a non-profit serving veterans.

The workshop was titled "Clean Up Your Finances and Take Control of Your Debt." The venue was fully packed as more than 45 veterans participated in the event.  The event was conducted by 3 Certified Financial Planners and several volunteers from TPTF.

"We received very positive feedback from participants. Based on their feedback, we are going to develop and deliver more customized financial workshop to veterans," said Prerna Singh, President and CEO of The Pledging Tree Foundation.

Participants engaged in a variety of exercises to help them gain knowledge and understanding of how debt actually works over the course of an hour and half. The format of the workshop allowed participants to be fully engaged with material and ask questions, as well as reflect on their own experiences.

Fresh Start is a transitional housing, drug and alcohol treatment, and supportive service agency founded by John & Bonnie Walls in 1989. In particular, the Veterans’ programs at Fresh Start seek to improve the quality of life for veterans by providing a variety of support, educational, and training services. In most cases, Fresh Start veterans are looking to integrate back into normal civilian life, and require general budgeting and debt management skills. TPTF is committed to providing financial education literacy on those topics and much more through this partnership, by hosting additional targeted workshops.
