Announcement on Public Financial Workshops Series

Downingtown, PA— The Pledging Tree Foundation leadership has evaluated the effectiveness of its financial workshop series open to the public and discovered that the return on time and efforts by the Foundation and its volunteers has been minimal. Due to financial constraints as a small non-profit, the Foundation has decided to renew its focus on one-on-one financial counseling to those who have enrolled in TPTF’s matching savings program.

The Foundations will continue to research and explore possibilities to deliver tailored financial education in target demographics such as veterans, the Hispanic community, single mothers, and residents in affordable housing. TPTF will work with agencies who already service these populations to be better understand their needs and create targeted educational materials based on those needs. Downingtown, PA—The Pledging Tree Foundation hosted its first workshop to veterans through a partnership with Fresh Start Foundation (http://www.freshstartfoundation.org), a non-profit serving veterans.

The workshop was titled “Clean Up Your Finances and Take Control of Your Debt.” The venue was fully packed as more than 45 veterans participated in the event.  The event was conducted by 3 Certified Financial Planners and several volunteers from TPTF.

Participants engaged in a variety of exercises to help them gain knowledge and understanding of how debt actually works over the course of an hour and half. The format of the workshop allowed participants to be fully engaged with material and ask questions, as well as reflect on their own experiences.

Fresh Start is a transitional housing, drug and alcohol treatment, and supportive service agency founded by John & Bonnie Walls in 1989. In particular, the Veterans’ programs at Fresh Start seek to improve the quality of life for veterans by providing a variety of support, educational, and training services.
